Mark J. Gerencser is a senior vice president in Booz Allen Hamilton’s global government business, which serves clients in defense, security, and civil government agencies and ministries around the world. Booz Allen Hamilton is a global strategy and technology consulting firm with over $4 billion in annual revenue and more than 19,000 employees. Mr. Gerencser, who has a BS in electrical engineering from Rutgers University and an MS in technology management from the University of Maryland, joined Booz Allen Hamilton in 1982 as an entry level consultant, and was elected a senior vice president in 2003. Until recently, he served as managing director of the firm’s global government business and currently leads the Modeling, Simulation, Wargaming and Analysis Team. Over the past 25 years, he has played a variety of key leadership roles in building the firm’s public sector business, as well as in creating its commercial Enterprise Resilience business.
Mr. Gerencser also serves as a member of the firm’s Leadership Team which sets the strategic agenda for Booz Allen, including market direction and strategy, resource allocation, and major investments. He serves on Booz Allen’s board of directors and is a member of the Personnel Committee. He is the chairman of the Corporate Ethics Committee which oversees ethics and compliance matters across the firm globally.
Mr. Gerencser leads many of the firm’s thought leadership efforts, including CEO summits that addressed the interdependencies between business, trade, and security; leading a cyber-summit for Fortune 1000 and government agency CIOs to create a shared agenda for information privacy and information assurance; chairing several technology studies for the Electronics Industries Association (EIA) to forecast the impact of technological change on business; and representing industry to several Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) Net Assessment initiatives to help assess the readiness level of U.S. defense capabilities.
He is the founder of the United States National Security Scholarship Program which works with local universities and the federal government to recruit new talent into the National Security Community. He serves on the University of Maryland’s Board of Visitors and the Advisory Board for its Strategic Security Laboratory. He is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in the United Kingdom and the Intelligence and National Security Alliance in the United States. Consulting Magazine named him one of the top 25 most influential consultants in 2007.
Mr. Gerencser has appeared on numerous television news programs (MSNBC, Fox News, CNN) and has been featured in print media as well (Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Washington Post). He enjoys golf, snowboarding, and martial arts, and when he is not riding his Harley, you may find him on the diamonds of Northern Virginia coaching youth baseball.
